I’m Zdeněk Chmel, living in Prague, Czech Republic, Europe. I’m 53 years old. I’m married and I have two sons (age 22 and 25). I work for the biggest bank in my country – Ceska spořitelna. I’m an IT specialist.

I have been running for 32 years. I started running and made progress from 2 miles distance to the marathon. Over the first seven-year period I ran more than 6,000 miles. I began to fantasize about running a marathon. I ran my first marathon in 1990 at age 28 in Prague.

As of October 2015, I have run 74 marathons and 7 ultramarathons in 9 different countries, including 11 marathons in 10 U.S. states (Boston, NYC, Chicago, Marine Corps marathon, Yakima River Canyon Marathon and others). My personal best time for the marathon is 3:22:25 at the age of 49. I ran the Prague International marathon twenty times. I’m an ambassador of this race – Gold PIM King.

My wife Iva took up running competitively after age 50. She ran her first marathon in September 2015. We ran together in the Grand Lake marathon in Celina, Ohio, USA. We are a marathon couple now. That is my biggest marathon goal in my life.

I’m a founder and president of Bezecky klub Ceska sporitelny (Running club of Ceska sporitelna). We have almost 200 members.

I'd like to help connect marathon runners over the world. MG is the right club for that idea. The motto of my favorite runner Emil Zatopek: “If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon.”
